2027 RACE HOTS UP; LABOUR PARTY REVEALS NOMINATION COSTS, DATES
The Labour Party (LP) has officially released its nomination fee structure ahead of the 2026 Ward, Local Government Area (LGA), and State Congresses, as well as its National Convention, with fees ranging from ₦3,000 to ₦2,000,000 depending on the position.
The guidelines, contained in the Labour Party Electoral Guidelines — Final Copy, were approved at the party’s Statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on March 17, 2026, in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
According to the timetable, congresses will hold nationwide on March 26, 28, and 31, 2026, while the National Convention is scheduled for April 11, 2026.
The document was signed by National Chairman Dist. Sen. Nenadi Usman and National Secretary Dist. Sen. Darlington Nwokocha.
National Offices
At the national level, aspirants for the position of National Chairman are required to pay ₦2,000,000, while the Deputy National Chairman position attracts ₦1,000,000. All other National Working Committee (NWC) roles, including the National Secretary, are pegged at ₦500,000.
State Level
For state positions, the State Chairman nomination fee is ₦200,000, while the Deputy State Chairman will pay ₦100,000. The State Secretary and other State Working Committee positions are set at ₦150,000 each.
LGA Level
At the LGA tier, Chairmanship aspirants will pay ₦20,000, Vice Chairmanship ₦10,000, while Secretary and other positions are fixed at ₦15,000.
Ward Level
At the grassroots, Ward Chairman aspirants will pay ₦5,000, Vice Chairman ₦3,000, and Secretary/other roles ₦4,000.
Revenue Sharing Formula
The party stated that nomination fees and delegates’ monthly dues will be distributed in line with its constitution: Ward (20%), LGA (15%), and State (25%).
The announcement signals the Labour Party’s move to strengthen its internal processes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
