NIMC Faces Public Outrage Over Birthday Post for Seyi Tinubu

NIMC Faces Public Outrage Over Birthday Post for Seyi Tinubu The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has come under intense criticism after its official X (formerly Twitter) handle posted a birthday message celebrating Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The post, which featured a flier bearing Seyi Tinubu’s image and the NIMC logo, read: > “Happy birthday, Barr. Seyi Tinubu. May God bless you with wisdom, favour, and lasting joy. This milestone marks the start of even greater achievements ahead. The best is just beginning.” The message was signed by NIMC’s Director-General, Engr. (Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote.   BREAKING: ASUU Announces Two-Week Nationwide Strike Starting October 13 The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a two-week nationwide warning strike, set to commence at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, following the Federal Government’s failure to meet its long-standing commitments to the union. NIGERIA AT 65 THE RISE OF PATRIOTS

The Rise of Patriots: A Reflection on Nigeria at 65 By Wale Kuku As Nigeria marks 65 years of nationhood, the conversations about unity, cohesion, and identity are once again at the center of national discourse. Beyond the fireworks and speeches, Independence anniversaries are a reminder of unfinished tasks—the building of a nation that is truly united, just, and progressive. And at the heart of this task lies the question of patriotism. Patriotism is not blind loyalty or mere flag-waving; it is the conscious decision to place the collective good of a nation above personal gain. At 65, Nigeria urgently needs patriots who will stand above politics, tribe, or creed to safeguard the soul of democracy. The Patriotic Legacy of Awolowo, Azikiwe, Bello, Abiola, and Aminu Kano Chief Obafemi Awolowo stands tall in history as a patriot who saw governance as service. His policy of free primary education in Western Nigeria was a testament to his belief that the future of a nation lies in the...

The Dearth of Democracy is the Dearth of Patriotism By Wale Kuku

The Dearth of Democracy is the Dearth of Patriotism By Wale Kuku Democracy is not merely a political system; it is the heartbeat of a nation’s identity. Where democracy thrives, patriotism grows, but where democracy falters, loyalty to the state weakens. The health of one determines the strength of the other. I believe that today, more than ever, there is a pressing need for patriots to look beyond the thin lines of politics and politicking. Democracy suffers most when patriotism becomes transactional—when people align with the state only for personal benefit. True patriots, by contrast, anchor their loyalty on principle, justice, and the collective good. The dearth of such patriots is now the greatest harm to democracy, for without them, governance loses its moral compass and the people lose their faith in the system. History provides a sharp mirror. Past patriots—whether political leaders, civil rights activists, or ordinary citizens—displayed traits of sacrifice, courage, and...
