Labour Party Notifies INEC of Revised Timetable for 2026 Congresses, National Convention


The Labour Party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of a revised timetable for its ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as its 2026 national convention.


In a letter dated March 3, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of INEC, the party’s national leadership stated that the decision to reschedule the activities was taken in line with the electoral body’s revised schedule of activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. The notice was officially received by the Commission on March 4, 2026.


The correspondence, signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi E. Usman, and National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha, explained that the adjustment became necessary to ensure proper alignment with electoral regulations and to allow the party conclude its internal processes ahead of the next electoral cycle.


According to the revised schedule communicated to the Commission, membership revalidation and new registrations are currently ongoing nationwide.


The party also outlined the following timetable for its internal congresses:


Ward Congresses – March 26, 2026


Local Government Area Congresses – March 28, 2026


State Congresses – March 31, 2026


National Convention – April 11, 2026



The leadership noted that the rescheduling was carried out in accordance with relevant legal provisions, including the Electoral Act, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the party’s constitution, and the guidelines regulating political parties.


The party further invited INEC to monitor the congresses and the national convention across the federation as part of its oversight responsibilities.


The letter added that the Commission had earlier acknowledged a previous notice on the matter dated February 16, 2026, and expressed appreciation for the Commission’s continued cooperation.


The Labour Party reiterated its commitment to strengthening democratic processes within the party and contributing to the overall democratic development of Nigeria.
