BREAKING:

Panic as Fulani Herdsmen Abduct Four Farmers at CRIN, IDIAYUNRE Facility in Ibadan

Panic erupted at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, after suspected terrorists invaded the facility and abducted four cocoa farmers.

Eyewitness footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as Chuks shows staff and farmers—many dressed in traditional attire—fleeing in fear as chaos broke out across the institute परिसर.

The incident has raised serious concerns, given CRIN’s strategic importance as a federal agricultural research hub central to Nigeria’s cocoa production and development.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that investigations are underway. However, authorities have yet to disclose details about the identities of the attackers or the condition and whereabouts of the abducted victims.

The attack has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing growing anxiety over the deteriorating security situation in the South West—previously regarded as one of the country’s more stable regions.

Some social media users also referenced local security advocacy efforts and figures such as Sunday Igboho amid increasing calls for stronger community-based protection.

Security agencies have urged residents to remain calm while efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped farmers and apprehend those responsible.

According to the Centre, nowhere in Bishop Kukah’s comments did he diminish the seriousness of faith-based persecution in Nigeria. Instead, it reaffirmed that the Bishop has consistently highlighted the alarming rise in targeted attacks on Christian com...
