Anti-Tinubu Coalition Submits Application to INEC for New Political Party: "All Democratic Alliance (ADA)"

In a strategic political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, a powerful coalition of political heavyweights under the umbrella of the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The application, dated June 19, 2025, was received by INEC on June 20 and signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets, who serves as the Pro-tem National Chairman of the proposed party. The party's slogan, "Justice for All," highlights its commitment to fairness and equity in governance.

Included in the coalition's application were critical documents such as the party's proposed constitution, manifesto, logo, and flag design, alongside evidence of a functioning national secretariat. The group also submitted records of past meetings and all relevant paperwork as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act.

The move to create a new political entity comes after several failed attempts by the coalition to merge with existing political parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Internal divisions, unresolved litigations, and questions of dominance within those platforms reportedly hindered any meaningful integration.

The coalition, which features prominent national figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Umar Ardo, and others, eventually resolved to form a new party where all members would come in on equal footing, avoiding the pitfalls of factional control. A special review committee, chaired by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, recommended this path after extensive consultations.

This development signals a renewed effort by opposition forces to unite and challenge the political status quo under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. The ADA seeks to provide a credible alternative rooted in democratic justice, national unity, and inclusive governance.

As Nigeria inches closer to another election cycle, all eyes will be on INEC’s response and the potential impact of ADA on the country’s political landscape.

In a press release signed by the Executive Director, Fr. Atta Barkindo, Ph.D, the Centre expressed concern over what it described as “selective attributions” and “mischaracterisation” of Bishop Kukah’s recent remarks at two major events: the 2025 World Report on Religious Freedom launched at the Vatican on 21 October, and the 46th Supreme Convention of the Knights of St. Mulumba held in Kaduna on 28 November. According to the Centre, nowhere in Bishop Kukah’s comments did he diminish the seriousness of faith-based persecution in Nigeria. Instead, it reaffirmed that the Bishop has consistently highlighted the alarming rise in targeted attacks on Christian com...
