WALE KUKU: TOUCHING LIVES. CREATING WEALTH. BUILDING IMPACT.

WALE KUKU: TOUCHING LIVES. CREATING WEALTH. BUILDING IMPACT . A journey witnessed from the inside. I have watched Wale Kuku for many years, and my story is not that of someone observing from a distance. In 2015, I was a member of the Ijebu Youth group within the PDP. I witnessed firsthand the youth mobilisation around Wale Kuku and his role in organising young people. I remember his mobilisation for the Goodluck Jonathan campaign in Abeokuta in 2015. From my recollection, more than 5,000 young people were mobilised to the stadium. What stayed with me was not just the turnout, but the way he handled the people he mobilised. The money meant for the youths reached them, and, from what I witnessed, he made sure the people received what was due to them. That was Wale Kuku then . But what interests me even more is what he did afterwards. HE STARTED BUILDING In 2019, I joined the Ijebu Youth movement, which later evolved into New Generation . I have remained a floor member of that movem...

Three Countries in East Africa where it snows

Three Countries in East Africa where it snows  When people think of snow, Africa may not be the first continent that comes to mind. However, some of East Africa’s highest mountains have snow, glaciers and ice despite being close to the Equator. Here are three East African countries where you can find snow at high elevations. 1. Tanzania Tanzania is home to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain at 5,895 metres. The mountain’s summit is covered by snow and ice despite its location close to the Equator.  Tanzania’s national parks authority says the Kibo peak, the highest point of Kilimanjaro, is covered by snow throughout the year.  Mount Kilimanjaro is also one of Africa’s most famous natural landmarks, rising dramatically above the surrounding savannah. 2. Kenya Kenya is home to Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest mountain at 5,199 metres. The mountain straddles the Equator and has glacier-covered summits. UNESCO says Mount Kenya has 12 remnant glaciers, alt...

UN adopts African proposal for new world map showing countries’ true sizes.

UN adopts African proposal for new world map showing countries’ true sizes. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted an African proposal for a new world map which shows countries’ true sizes relative to one another. The resolution, passed on Friday, seeks to give an “equitable” representation of the world’s regions, particularly Africa. According to the resolution, the distortions in the current world map have resulted in the continent’s “symbolic minimization” in people’s collective imagination. The resolution was adopted with 164 countries voting in favour, six abstaining, and only the United States voting against it. The countries that abstained were Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, Georgia, Moldova, and Serbia. At present, many of the world’s maps are based on the Mercator projection, created by European cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569 to aid navigation at sea. Mercator initially made globes before transferring his map from a three-dimensional curved surface to a f...

Atiku: Tinubu’s policies have left youths selling organs instead of innovation

Atiku: Tinubu’s policies have left youths selling organs instead of innovation Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the  African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that economic hardship is driving youths to sell their organs to survive. Atiku made the  claim  in a statement posted on his X handle on Friday, while reacting to  reports  of a man who sold his kidney. “That should break the heart of a nation,” Atiku wrote. The former vice-president said the rising cost of food and other basic needs was making it increasingly difficult for Nigerians to live with dignity. “Young people should be selling dreams, ideas and innovation, not their body organs. Young Nigerians should be building careers, starting businesses, raising families and pursuing their dreams, not calculating how much parts of their bodies can fetch simply to stay alive,” Atiku said. “When young Nigerians begin to see their kidneys as emergency savings, we are no longer talking about ordin...

Low productivity, market gaps trap farmers in poverty — Experts

Low productivity, market gaps trap farmers in poverty — Experts Industry experts have said Nigerian farmers are trapped in poverty by low productivity and supply chain gaps that can cost smallholders up to 60 per cent of their produce. They spoke recently at the second edition of the Climate Smart Agriculture Dialogue Series organised by TransGreen Foundation, where they identified low yields, fragmented markets, inadequate financing, weak extension services and climate change as major constraints to agricultural development. Speaking during the webinar held under the theme, ‘Can Regenerative Agriculture Feed Africa?’ Country Director, Sasakawa Africa Association, Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Atser, said Nigeria’s agricultural productivity remained significantly below that of countries such as India, leaving Nigerian farmers with far lower incomes. He said: “Our farmers are trapped in poverty. And this is because if you look at the productivity compared to India across key crops, whether you ar...

Uber Exits Nigeria After 12 Years

Uber Exits Nigeria After 12 Years After 12 years of being part of everyday life for millions of Nigerians, Uber has officially announced that it is leaving the Nigerian market, effective September 2, 2026. Uber first launched in Lagos in 2014 and quickly became one of the most popular ride-hailing options in the country. According to the company, the decision to leave Nigeria comes after reviewing its business priorities and investment plans across Africa. Uber also clarified that its exit is not connected to the recent FAAN directive concerning e-hailing services at Nigerian airports. The departure will undoubtedly affect both riders and drivers who have relied on the platform over the years, while also marking a major moment for Nigeria’s growing ride-hailing industry. Uber’s Help Centre will remain available until September 23 to assist users with outstanding issues. For many Nigerians, Uber was more than just an app. It became a familiar part of getting around, especially in b...
