U.S. and Israeli forces timed their opening salvo to coincide with a meeting Khamenei was holding with his top aides, according to two U.S. sources.

Israeli officials say Khamenei was killed alongside Ali Shamkhani, the former National Security Council secretary, and IRGC Commander Mohammed Pakpour.

Two Iranian sources confirm Khamenei was sitting with Shamkhani and Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani when the bombs started falling.
