Adire: Minister Makes U-Turn, Says No Fabric Adopted To Replace NYSC Khaki

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has rescinded his earlier announcement on Adire as possible replacement for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform.

Olawande announced the reversal in a statement posted on his X account on Thursday.

The minister’s initial proposal had generated widespread criticisms, with many Nigerians expressing concern that the adaptation of the adire fabric, closely associated with a particular region of the country, could undermine the national character of the scheme and promote sectional interests.

But in the statement the minister said his reference to Adire was only illustrative and that no fabric had been approved to replace the current NYSC khaki.
