Ibrahim Traore speaks about Black history and opression

On 16 July 2026, President Ibrahim Traoré delivered a powerful speech in the city of Ouahigouya in the Yaadga region of his country. He was greeted in Ouahigouya by hordes of cheering, screaming admirers. Then, he delivered an important educational message, rooted in global Black history, to his audience.

In the speech, President Traoré traces the length and extent of global Black oppression rooted in several centuries of enslavement, colonialism, and exploitation.

However, he also explains that throughout history, Black people have resisted oppression. Most importantly, he points out that the struggle is far from over.

He gives one example of systemic racism when he mentions the Nestlé scandal involving their products, Nido

Products like Nido and Cerelac, marketed to babies and children, do not contain added sugars in Europe but do in African countries.

However, President Traoré offers a clear solution to this problem: let us produce what we consume here in Africa.
